About the Book:
Can Love Transcend Time? Thirty-year old Matthew Herrington is weary of solo nights in strange cities. He is ready for a change. And that is exactly what he gets when he steps into Swing Night at The Green Mill and is instantly immersed in the sights and sounds of another era. Intrigued by the club’s authenticity, Matthew is enchanted when he meets Patty, a mixture of sexy and sweet who steals his heart. Patty Dennison has never met a man like Matthew in all her twenty-one years. A sophisticated man, he stands out from the usual Swing Night crowd. He is self-assured, smart, charming, and handsome as hell, even if he is a lousy dancer. Once he takes her in his arms, Patty is more than willing to give him a few dance lessons along with her heart. Repeated missed dates and unanswered phone calls strain the relationship and frustrate the pair. But unraveling their mystery exposes an impossible scenario, one that will torment their sanity and test their love. How can they make their fairytale last? Can love transcend time? - A Day in the life of you....
A day in my life begins between around 6:30 am with a lot – and I mean a lot – of coffee. I make a full pot which I drip into my veins all morning. I settle In the corner of my living room couch and check email, read articles on Medium and revise my to-do list. Funny how fast things change. Writing commences after I do a quick check of the news headlines and I don’t come up for air until around 1:30. That’s when my stomach protests my neglect in no uncertain terms. I feed it something unhealthy, check the news again, then do emails, promotions, blog tour interviews and other marketing work until five. More news – yes I am a total junkie – in the background while I hit social media. I am learning Pinterest right now and Instagram is on the horizon. I might watch a Hallmark channel movie on a slow news day or soak in the bath with my Kindle. I call it hydrotherapy. Eventaully I grow concerned about dropping the Kindle In the water and hit the sack. That is a typical day, but I take Fridays and Sundays to spend with friends and family, movies and Stranger Things.
- What are you currently reading?
Kate Canterbury’s Walsh Series. I finsihed book 3 Necessary Restorations last week and downloaded book 4, The Cornerstone. I cannot get enough of these sexy, complex and fun novels. I am also reading A Marriage of Opposites by Alice Hoffman for my book club. Don’t you just love everything she writes? And of course, for good measure, I am reading Permission Marketing by Seth Godin. I am always learning and there are just so many books and so little time.
- Favorite scene to write for Our Love is Here to Stay?
I loved writing the final scene, finding a balance between offering a happy ending on the one hand with bittersweet loss on the other. I did a couple of rewrites to get it just right – not too much too fast and not too maudlin. I ventured into both territories before I was satisfied with the current version. Also, it was fun to revisit San Francisco briefly, if only on paper. It was a great city to live in and I miss the many friends I left in California. Writing about San Francisco makes me feel a little closer to them.
- Dream Cast for Our Love is Here to Stay
Funny that you ask that, because I always have a visual for what my characters look like based on an actor, but this time I didn’t. Matthew is smart and a little geeky but California handsome. I have been watching “The Crown” on Netflix so I can see Matt Smith (Phillip Mountbatten) in his role. Patty is that magic cross between wholesome and sexy. That’s a bit harder to cast because Reese Witherspoon, who can rock that combination is too old for Patty. How about Arielle Kebbel instead? She’s great at the tough faces on HBO’s Ballers, but when she smiles, she is the embodiment of Patty.
- Where did your love of writing come from?
I get this love of writing from multiple sources, but predominantly from my mother. She was a librarian, so she raised me to appreciate books. I fell in love with characters who loved to write – Anne, of Anne of Green Gables for example. As a teen I was influenced by my English teachers and my journalism teacher in High School to love reading and writing. I walked away from it for more than 30 years to toil in corporate America, but I guess it stayed in my blood, because here I am.
