In Flight - Book Review

Someone on Facebook asked their followers to list their favorite erotic books.  So me being me, I followed the thread.  I picked up quit a few books, this being one of them.  I'm so happy I did.  That being say, I did read the bad reviews before the good reviews before purchasing the book.  Someone said that James is a mirror image of Christian and Gideon.  Now after reading the book, the only thing they have in common is spanking and money.  Otherwise nope.  Yes, the men are high handed and bossy, but that goes along with spanking.  You can't group them all together.  James is more of the master I would want, over Christian(who annoyed me) or Gideon(who ruled me).  Why?  Because she mattered to him from the beginning.  Bee was it for him as soon as he saw her.  And he doesn't just spank and restrain, he is also gentle and loving.

I'm just glad I'm not a guy who read this book, Christ, I wouldn't have been able to walk after reading some of the stuff in here.  But then again, maybe I would have gotten some good ideas too.

Ok, on to the book review!!

Blurb:

When reserved flight attendant Bianca gets one look at billionaire hotel owner James Cavendish, she loses all of her hard-won composure. For a girl who can easily juggle a tray of champagne flutes at 35,000 feet in three inch heels, she finds herself shockingly weak-kneed from their first encounter. The normally unruffled Bianca can't seem to look away from his electrifying turquoise gaze. They hold a challenge, and a promise, that she finds impossible to resist, and she is a girl who is used to saying no and meaning it.

Bianca is accustomed to dealing with supermodels and movie stars in her job as a first class flight attendant, but James Cavendish puts them all to shame in the looks department. If only it were just his looks that she found so irresistible about the intimidating man, Bianca could have ignored his attentions. But what tempts her like never before is the dominant pull he seems to have over her from the moment they meet, and the promise of pleasure, and pain, that she reads in his eyes.

4 Stars

Bianca has a troubled past, she is trying to grow up and move on, but it's hard when the shadows keep moving in.  Stephan, her best friend and only family, work together and he keeps her safe.  He'll always be there for her.  It's at her job, as a fight attendant that she meets James and the sparkler ignites.   From that one meeting, there is a whirlwind of words that tangle Bianca into agreeing to seeing him outside of work.

What I like about Bianca is that she thinks things thru.  Ok, this only lasts for awhile, I'm fine with that.  She is careful, because she's been hurt before, so she guards her heart.  But she gives her love to James freely, because she trusts him.  Not 100%, she only trusts Stephan that much, but she trusts James enough to allow him and to love her.

James is dark, mysterious, and fierce in his pursuit of Bianca, who thinks this is going to be a week or month long fling.  She's mentally prepared herself for that, but what about her heart?  Could her heart with stand only a short amount of time with James?

James and Bianca both have troubled pasts.  But unlike other BDSM Billionaire's, he's willing to share his story with Bianca, in a trade of information.  He tells her something, she tells him.  It's only fair.  The sex scenes between them are powerful and not over drawn, they are realistic and extreme.  He's tender with her, guiding her, but in the same breathe he is an animal raging against her.  The chemistry between them is overpowering and overwhelming.  But in a good way.

Over all a great read.  I would push this book over some of the other books similar to this. I'm ready to read book #2.  Can't wait!  I need to see what happens, I was left hanging at the end of book #1!  Cliff hanger!!  But it's okay, I actually want to know what is going to happen to James and Bianca.

With a shudder Gyan recalled the rumor that Camilla had enlisted demonic aid…
She banished those thoughts, and their attendant fears, by pondering the irony that Camilla had tried to strike at her through Arthur. It might have worked, once.
The passion that had colored the early years of their marriage was still celebrated in song throughout Breatein and Caledon.
These days, she wasn’t singing.

Mornings Journey - Author Photo
Kim Headlee lives on a farm in southwestern Virginia with her family, cats, goats, Great Pyrenees goat guards, and assorted wildlife. People and creatures come and go, but the cave and the 250-year-old house ruins—the latter having been occupied as recently as the mid-twentieth century—seem to be sticking around for a while yet.
Kim is a Seattle native and a direct descendant of twentieth-century Russian nobility. Her grandmother was a childhood friend of the doomed Grand Duchess Anastasia, and the romantic yet tragic story of how Lydia escaped Communist Russia with the aid of her American husband will most certainly one day fuel one of Kim’s novels. Another novel in the queue will involve her husband’s ancestor, the seventh-century proto-Viking king of the Swedish colony in Russia.
For the time being, however, Kim has plenty of work to do in creating her projected 8-book Arthurian series, The Dragon’s Dove Chronicles, and other novels clamoring for attention. She has been a published novelist since 1999, beginning with the original editions of Dawnflight (Sonnet Books, Simon & Schuster, ISBN 0671020412) and Liberty (writing as Kimberly Iverson, HQN Books, Harlequin, ISBN 0373771347).

AUTHOR BIO

I started writing at a very young age, mostly as an escape from the real world. It is something I have done on and off throughout my life, but never went so far as to actually try and get published.

I started my latest story, My Life As I Knew It, around 3 years ago. I was on a roll with it until I allowed life to get in the way. I am now officially picking up where I left off. It is the first book of a series on which I'm working.

I came up with the premise for this story while undergoing some pretty harsh challenges in my personal life. As mentioned before, I always liked writing as a means of escape. While going through these particularly tough times, I had a moment when I thought about what it would be like to go back in time and do certain things differently...which I'm sure almost everyone has thought about from time to time. I sat in front of my keyboard one morning, thought about what I would do if I had that chance and went from there.

She drifted closer to the edge of the crowd, drawn by him. She must harden her heart to match his, and commit a sin in the eyes of God and man. He would lose a few months of living. She would live again.
“What have we here?” he murmured. She heard him clearly with the vampire hearing he had bequeathed her. The curve of his lip was all insouciant condescension. He strolled forward, surveying the mob.
“Monsieur, surely you will help us!”
Frankie turned at the sound of her own voice. She gasped. There she stood, the she who had been, Françoise Suchet, not Frankie, her face a mask of innocence in distress, a gendarme holding each elbow. It was a face Frankie still saw in the mirror each day, streaked with soot her blond hair glowed copper in the red light of the flames licking out the windows above her. Frankie knew intellectually she hadn’t changed with all the years, but to know this face was not a mirror image but one that lived two hundred years ago shook her sanity.
Françoise strained toward Henri in supplication. Foolish girl. The last thing she needed was Henri Foucault. That way lay vampirism.
Then the young Françoise stilled. Her head turned slowly. Her eyes locked with Frankie’s and widened.
Frankie couldn’t get her breath. Françoise seemed to grow nearer, even as the crowd behind her receded. Frankie dropped her bag, gasping, and bent over, grabbing her belly against the pain there. This was bad. Really bad. She should never have met herself. She felt like she was breaking up. A shriek escaped her. All thoes time travel books were right, she thought.
And then she was hurtling toward Françoise. She felt herself disintegrating into a mist. Then nothing.

Union of Sin

Blurb:

He’ll do anything to protect her. Even if it means letting her go.

Vault of Sin, Book 2

Tate Jackson made a big mistake. No, a monumental one. He picked the wrong place to introduce his wife, Cassie, to the alluring lifestyle they’d fantasized about.
Instinct told him to get her out of the poor excuse for a sex club—but he didn’t. And she was assaulted because of his carelessness. He’ll do anything to protect her from another traumatic experience, even if it means making the agonizing choice to convince his wife he no longer loves her.
Cassie’s not buying it. In fact, Tate is the last person she blames for that horrific night. She’s willing to give him the space he thinks he needs to get his head straight, but when divorce papers arrive, she realizes she’s out of time. She has twenty-eight days to figure out why Tate is ruining a perfect marriage. Twenty-eight days to figure out what he’s hiding. But when she learns the truth, she has to decide if her heart can take the strain of piecing their love back together.

Warning: Dirty tactics, dirtier sex, ropes, masks, guilty consciences, and love stretched so far, no one escapes unchanged. Not even you, dear reader.

4 stars

Well damn TJ!  I was pissed at him most of the book for not trusting his wife's judgment.  He was a typical caveman, who knew best.  No, wrong!  Step back and let the lady handle herself, she's been doing it for years.  Cool your jets, baby!  Instead he blamed himself and decided to act before thinking.

Cassie took the reigns and showed TJ, that she is a big girl and can deal with her life and what she needs.  She didn't want to lose her husband, she's always wanted him.  And now she was going to prove it.  Right under his nose!!  TJ kept being stubborn and thinking this is for her own good.  NO!  Can they pull it together before the Divorce is final?  Can they be okay?  Can this work?

I love Eden's writing style.  She draws you in, makes you the best friends of everyone.  The characters are well written and we all know a TJ, who thinks he knows better than you.  How many Cassie's do you know?  Not many.  I can't wait to read Brute's story.   Keep those stories coming!  It's how I escape reality!!

Bite & Release - Book Review

Blurb:

Ryan Chase left Fairbanks, Alaska, when she was 21 years old to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Somewhere along the way her dreams of stardom crashed and burned, along with her life. Thirteen years later she is forced to return to Fairbanks because her unforgiving and emotionally-distant father has suddenly died. Ryan seizes the opportunity to not only escape her abusive husband but to be able to attend her best friend's wedding. What could go wrong? It's only Fairbanks, Alaska... While wishing she was anywhere but her father's funeral and wake, Ryan is struck senseless by a stunning, drop-dead gorgeous man. Her thoughts turn carnal and she desperately wants to know him in every way-and position-possible. There's only one problem... He's the devil's spawn. He's the one who marked her for life. He's the kid she used to baby-sit. And he's hotter than hell! Shea Michaels has loved Ryan Chase for most of his life. After surviving an unspeakable childhood, he became a man of whom she could be proud of...if she ever came back. Now that she's returned, Shea pursues her with a vengeance, undaunted by the thirteen year age difference that Ryan uses as the shield between them. Confusion, guilt and lust bombard Ryan as she battles the memories of the little boy she used to know while still being drawn to the heart-stopping man he has become.

4 Stars

I started reading this Friday at lunch time and could not put this book down.  I was captivated by the story of Shea and Ryan.  The age hang up, I get that, especially when the woman is older than the man.  Do I think it would be a challenge?  Yes, but all good relationships have challenges.

Ryan Chase's life just turned upside down.  Her father died and she is running from a mistake in NYC.  When she gets home to Fairbanks, Alaska, its just like she remembered.  Nothing changed and that is why she ran in the first place.  Now back to take care of her late father's life, she reunites with her best friend Trina, and Trina's little brother Shea.  Shea who worshipped the ground that Ryan walks on.  But the age gap between them keeps Ryan at arms distance from Shea.  But he is working his magic on her.  At Trina's wedding to Quinn, all bets are off the table, when Ryan succumbs to Shea.  Can this work?

This story is filled with ups and downs between Ryan and her past, Ryan and Shea, Shea and his past.  It's heart breaking in some areas and in other's I kept waiting for Ryan's past to jump out of the closet and strike like a Rattlesnake.  Some times the story between Trina and Ryan dragged, I didn't care about them, I cared about Shea and Ryan and if things would work out for them.  Trina was an afterthought to me, but still an important part of the story.  The chemistry between Ryan and Shea is great, it's what every girl dreams of in a man, ok, maybe not every girl, just me.

I'm anxious to read book #2 in this series, Shea's POV!!  The Reason I Breathe

BUY & TBR LINKS

EXCERPT

For the first time in…hell, it must be years, Emigh’s life felt bright and vibrant. Meeting Anise was the dawning of a new day. The lift she needed for so long. She dared to pick up the phone that first night and call Anise. To hear that special kind of something in her voice as they spoke. To talk about everything and anything…well, not everything. She didn’t broach the subject of her sexuality – well, maybe not hers, she knew that, but Anise’s. As a matter of fact, Anise spoke of neither male nor female friends. Anise spoke of her passion for crafting corsets and perfume. She loved to bake. She was estranged from her family. They didn’t understand she didn’t want to work a boring nine-to-five job, train into the city, train home again at night, exhausted. They thought she was wasting her life away, and because she wouldn’t come around to their strict way of thinking and living, she walked away from them. Emigh admired her spunk and dedication. Smart, sweet, articulate, and she made her laugh, which was a tough thing to do. Anise was definitely a rare breed of woman. But how long could it last? She couldn’t tell Anise she was a vampire, let alone that she would never die. Vampire. How she hated the word! But until someone came up with something new, she was stuck with it. Of course, Anise would never believe her. No one did. Every once in a while, some beautiful woman would come along, and their connection would be instantaneous…sizzling. Emigh would find herself whispering the truth to her beloved. Inevitably, the not-so-twin-flame would beat a hasty retreat, believing Emigh was crazy, or a liar…or both. Crazy and liar are never good things in a relationship.

Kayla had seamlessly taken control of the sound system a few minutes ago and the stuff she had been playing was good, better than the typical pre-recorded shit. But what caught his attention now was the sound of her voice. She was singing into the mic on her headset. Not lyrics but a beautiful stream of notes that seemed to flutter from her gut up to her vocal cords in a lilting sound that was captivating. The notes she sang rose and fell, exotic and mysterious with the intriguing underlying beat. Her voice called, it drew…and soon women rose from their seats to the small dance area to move and sway with the music, and the men followed them. The same people who had been oblivious of the music a moment before as they’d smoked and talked were now giving their full attention to Kayla. It wasn’t just the music that mesmerized them; it was Kayla herself. She was a vision. Her blonde hair gleamed under the lights, and her shoulders and hips writhed in a sexy dance, and all the while she continued to turn knobs and flip switches to make the music she sang to. She was absorbed in it and having a great time. Sometimes her hair flicked when she gyrated, as if in punctuation to her movements. Combined with the sound of her voice, she was like a beacon—the song of an angel caressing and drawing everyone in. It was like nothing he’d ever heard before. “Hola!” said a man in an aggressive tone, waving a one hundred Euro bill. “Can we get ten shots of Patrón?” “Of course. Right away, friend.” Lex focused back in on his job. It was awhile before he could come back up for air. But when he did, he noticed that the space was packed with bodies dancing to the music Kayla played. And, although she was keeping it mellow as instructed, it was the biggest crowd he’d ever seen on the terrace during the day. Security continuously went through, trying to keep key paths clear. Hands holding cell phones were up in the air, outstretched toward her, as they took pictures and videos. Through it all, she wore the brightest smile he’d ever seen, occasionally lifting one hand to press the earphones closer. She changed the tempo to a faster beat and the crowd responded with cheers. She bounced up and down in joy, hand waving above her head with exhilaration, and the people lifted and pumped their fists in mimicry. She was every bit as good as any DJ they’d had before and more. She was the embodiment of everything he thought he would have experienced and felt had it been him on the stage. Somehow, she caught him watching, and gave him a cheery wave. Embarrassed, he waved awkwardly back, and then pulled his eyes back down to the bar. And, even though he could acknowledge that Rick had been right, that she was good, he couldn’t help feeling the tiny nugget of palpable distaste lodged deep in his chest.

Alpha Alien - Book Review

Blurb:

Novalyn Bryce is a student, tending bar at night to put herself through school in New York City. She has no family, few friends, and no romantic prospects.

Odrik Nuh’ar of Qetesh is seven feet tall, with skin the color of honey. He is a warrior hunter, with rippling muscles and ink black hair, and horns that wrapped around his head like a crown.

The Qet are a proud, tribal people, who were settled on the planet Qetesh two hundred or so years ago. Over those 200 years, most of their females have died off, leaving them on the brink of extinction.

The government, in conjunction with an intergalactic agency known only as The Echelon -- a group that serves to keep the balance of the universe in check -- has been plucking human women up out of their lives to bring them to Qetesh as potential mates to keep the proud people from dying out entirely.

Novalyn Bryce is one such woman.

Alien Alpha is a 50,000 word Alien / Sci-Fi Romance novel containing scorching sex scenes and adult content. The lush planet of Qetesh, rife with tall, chiseled alpha males, menacing alien tribes, and a complete dearth of suitable women. Read at your own risk!

3 Stars

The females of the Qet tribe are long gone. The Qet males face extinction unless something can be done. The Space Federation takes it upon themselves to relocate willing humans, but when Novalyn Bryce is relocated unwilling to Qet, she gets more than she bargains for.

Odrik is exiled from his tribe, he lost his horns and is now on his own. But when a space ship streaks across the sky, he goes towards it, knowing what waits him. A female. A mate. The mother to his children. A future. Some hope. But can he convince this woman to stay with him on this hostile planet? Or will she flee for home, leaving him alone again?

Although a quick read, it is still a good story. Not the best Alien romance I've read and not the worst. I wouldn't necessarily say that Odrik is an Alpha either, he is a gentleman. Never does he push Nova, never does he behave any way towards her then a gentleman. He doesn't take what isn't it. But then I don't think Gentleman Alien would have been a fitting title. :-(

What Legacy Will You Pass Down To The Next Generation?

After being a parent for twenty years, I have come to believe that the most important thing for parents to decide more important than bottle or breastfeeding, more important than co-sleeping or sleep training, and even more important than whether to put your child in day care or become a stay-at-home parent is what values are important to your family and how you will go about instilling those values in your children.

In Strong and Kind Korie Robertson with the help of her mom, Chrys Howard, and with insights and stories from her husband, Willie introduces nine character traits that children need in order to lead a successful life. And though there are no perfect parents or perfect children, Korie shares principles based on biblical wisdom and time-tested practices that will help you parent your own one-of-a-kind child.

Monument 14 - Book Review

I picked up this book in the OBX(Outer Banks, NC) at the Buxton Village Book Store - go check it out.  Cutest little book store ever.  I'm not sure why I didn't read it until now.  I've had it for about a year and a half now.  The mood stuck, so I grabbed it.

Monument 14 is a Teen/Apocalyptic thriller, set in 2024.  Cory Booker is the president and he is faced with many natural disasters as well as other disasters happening to the USA.  There are NO zombies in this book.  Terrifying, raging teenagers and equally scary adults.

 Blurb:

Your mother hollers that you're going to miss the bus. She can see it coming down the street. You don't stop and hug her and tell her you love her. You don't thank her for being a good, kind, patient mother. Of course not-you launch yourself down the stairs and make a run for the corner.

Only, if it's the last time you'll ever see your mother, you sort of start to wish you'd stopped and did those things. Maybe even missed the bus.

But the bus was barreling down our street, so I ran.

Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.

In Emmy Laybourne's action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world-as they know it-apart.

3.5 Stars

This is not Lord of the Flies.  This is today's teens faced with the world around them collapsing.  Thankfully there are some smart kids; Niko, a boy scout, Josie, a responsible teen, and Alex, a electronic genius.  The rest are typical teens and elementary children.

The day stars normal, then large hail takes out the buses and lands the kids at a superstore, where they hold up, waiting to be rescued.  The Network is down, there is no way to communicate, to know if people are alive or dead.  Its just these 14 kids, trying to survive alone.   Can they make it?  Or will adults tear them apart?  Or will they tear each other apart?

This is a good story, I enjoyed reading it, I got caught up.  But to be honest, the only person I felt any sort of concern for was Niko and Max.  Niko is a leader, he knew what to do, he knew what needed to be done. Those popular kids were just filler and should be used as a lesson, being popular means NOTHING.  Being smart and prepared, means your life.  But this is a kids book, what am I thinking!?!  The characters were barely developed, because there was so many.  But that didn't matter, this was about the older kids stepping up and taking care of the younger kids and keep everyone safe.

The plot kept me guessing what was going to happen and there were places where I would cringe.  A lot of things happened really quick for these kids.  And maybe that is good, they took it in stride and kept moving forward, they didn't cower.  But some of the choices they made, had me scratching my head.  Like the lady who came to the door, why didn't they let her in, she was harmless.  She could have helped them, instead they left her die.  And as for NORAD's little science experiment with the blood types, that made me laugh.

While not the best Teen Apocalyptic story, it's still a solid tale.  This is series, book 2 & 3 are out.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Michael Brooks is a loner, and with good reason. A short fuse and a tendency to shoot from the hip, sometimes quite literally, mean he’s all the company he’s got most of the time, and he likes it that way just fine. It suits his job as Warden for Wyoming’s Fish and Game Department.
Being alone sounds good to the researcher for the USDA Forest Service, Dr. Seamus Rydell, especially since it means time away from the pressures to follow his family’s political traditions. He’ll need a guide to Timber Lake to set up his testing equipment, and who better than a Warden whose boss needs him out of sight for a while?
They’re just doing their jobs, until both men get derailed by a lust threatening to light up the night sky and by egos big enough to fill the wilderness.
When a psychopathic poacher intrudes, Michael’s past rises up and the present twists out of shape around a sick mind. As the future for both men fills with darkness, it is all too clear no one will come back from Timber Lake unscathed.

EXCERPT

A chance to do ground-breaking research brings Dr. Seamus “Sonny” Rydell back to Laramie and the kind of life he’s always dreamed about. His first night back, Sonny’s at the rodeo looking for a decent spot to view the proceedings. He finds more than he bargained for…
Circling the perimeter, his eyes and attention skyward toward the huge floods illuminating the arena, he never saw the man coming until he connected with a mountain of solid muscle. At six-two Sonny was no light weight, but the shorter cowboy damn near bowled him over. Hands the size of dinner plates steadied him while gunmetal blue eyes raked him over with a fearsome scowl.
Sonny yelped, “Oh hey, man, I’m so sorry. Wasn’t looking where I was going.” He pointed toward the crowded top railing and shrugged. “Looks like I’m SOL.”
The man chewed his bottom lip, his face hidden in the shadows cast by his hat. He twisted his head and yelled, “Yo, Dolly. Come over here.”
A teen girl, built solid in an athletic way, came rushing out of the crowd, dragging a tall, skinny kid who looked like he’d blow away in a strong breeze. She smiled at the brick wall still clutching his hips in a hero worship way, exposing a chipped tooth.
“Take this fella…” He tilted his head up enough Sonny nearly swallowed his tongue when he got a good look at a wet dream of ruggedly handsome. “What’s your name?”
“Sonny.”
“Sonny. Okay. Dolly here will take you to the contestant’s area. Stay out of the way and you won’t get tromped on.”
Sonny muttered, “This ain’t my first rodeo.”
Ruggedly handsome smirked. The scowl was less intimidating. He could do the scowl, oh yes, he could. That wasn’t the only thing he could do…
